The Vancouver Canucks franchise has been a mess in recent years, and with star center Elias Pettersson potentially on the way out, it could be getting much worse going forward.

A superstar in the making

After years of showing great promise, Pettersson finally put it all together in 2022-23, posting a career-high in games played (80), goals (39) and points (102), and now, he's poised to be a massive star going forward.
However, that may not be with Vancouver, as he has just one year left on his deal before becoming a free agent next summer, and that contract situation is clearly becoming a talking point in Vancouver.

A distraction?

Clearly, within the team, this isn't a distraction for anyone, and when asked about the possibility, the normally quiet Pettersson took a major shot at the Canucks media.
It's not a distraction. You guys make it a distraction. I've got one more year left. I'm happy now, but I just want to focus on the season, my teammates, and just come out with a good start with the team.
It's well known that the hockey media in Canada can be very overbearing, so it's no shock that players continue to lash out, but it's clearly not affecting Petterson, as it appears he's ready to help lead the Canucks to the playoffs in 2023-24.
'm just here to play to win. I've got one year left on my contract. Yeah, that's all I'm going to say.
