Gabe Vilardi was on a mission against his former team the LA Kings, potting 4 points. During his post-game media scrum, Vilardi didn't hold back his feelings either.
Vilardi Opens Up About Revenge Game Versus LA Kings
The Jets-Kings game looked like just another Wednesday night game on the schedule, but that wasn't the case for some of the Jets players, including Gabe Vilardi. Vilardi, the former King, was traded to the Jets in the Dubois trade and had some emotions around being traded.
Despite coming off a back-to-back, Vilardi was able to pot 4 points in his revenge game and opened up about his emotions on the game in his post-game media scrum.
«Obviously you saw it out there. I was here and now I'm gone,» Vilardi said, «I was drafted here, my time here playing here was amazing but at the end of the day, they didn't want me. So, it doesn't end anything.»
Vilardi went on to discuss how the team pulled it together for him and the other former Kings that were part of the trade, and how that meant a lot to him.
«We're a family. It's amazing to see all of the guys stepping up and coming together for me and Al (
Alex Iafallo). (
Rasmus Kupari, the third piece of the Dubois trade) isn't here (due to injury), but I guess you could say it was a more emotional game than normal.»
Vilardi Discusses Lizzotte Play Again and Sticks to His Opinion
This wasn't the first time the Jets met up with the Kings. Last time saw Vilardi left the game with a torn MCL from an injury caused by former teammate Blake Lizzotte. Vilardi had said that the play was stupid before, and he stuck to it after this game.
«I said what I felt. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I said my opinion I thought it was a dumb play by him and I was out almost two months because of it,» Vilardi re-iterated Wednesday night. «It's my opinion on it and not everyone has to agree with that. I have the right to my opinion as well.»
Clearly, this game meant a lot to the Jets, which shows just how far the team has come to rally around each other. Hopefully, this sentiment will continue on this season.
