Taking A Look Back At The Patrik Laine Trade Three Years Later
The Patrik Laine trade was one of the most shocking trades in recent NHL history. The trade has now been done for over 3 years let's look at how the Laine trade affected both teams involved.
Laine Traded To Columbus In Huge Swap Of Young Talent
Since this time all the players in this deal have had significant career changes. Let's see how they have faired in their new home.
Evaluating The Laine Trade Three Years Later
Patrik Laine went off to the Columbus Blue Jackets and was expected to continue being one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL. During his time in Columbus Laine has failed to live up to expectations. Since leaving the Jets Laine has not eclipsed the 30-goal or 60-point barrier.
Jack Roslovic was underused in Winnipeg and sent for a fresh start as well. After a breakout year in his first season with the Blue Jackets, it looked like Roslovic was going to be the best player from the deal. However, inconsistency and other players moving up in the lineup have relegated Roslovic back to a depth role.
As for Pierre-Luc Dubois, his two seasons with the Blue Jackets were successful compared to the players given away to the Blue Jackets. Reaching 60 points in both full seasons played with the Jets. Of course, things would come to a controversial end between Dubois and the Jets and he would be sent off to the Los Angeles Kings.
This trade saw huge potential pieces go each way. While the Jets no longer have the player they got in the deal one can argue they won the trade. The Blue Jackets are looking to move on from Laine and likely won't get much in return while the Jets got the best out of Dubois during his time with the team and got a good return when his time was up.
