The Winnipeg Jets are expected to be active at the upcoming NHL Trade Deadline. Talks in recent weeks have indicated the team will look to add a second-line center and a top-four defenseman. Today the Jets have been linked to a defenseman that would solve the latter.
Jets Emerge As Favorites To Land Top Star Defenseman
Earlier today a reporter from The Hockey News took a look into the potential favorites to land Saint Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko. The Blues are struggling to win games and Parayko is in the second year of an eight year contract that has not worked out well for either side.
Due to this the Blues are reportedly looking to move Parayko to a new team. The Winnipeg Jets have been listed as one of the early favorites to secure Parayko if he were to be moved at the trade deadline. Part of the link between the two comes from the Jets interest in Parayko in the past.
The Winnipeg Jets might not want to alter their chemistry too much this season, but they've been linked to Parayko in the past. I think the Blues might hesitate to trade him within the division, but a legitimate offer would force them to listen.
As mentioned the Jets might not want to mess with what has been working but they remain in the conversation. If the Jets are not willing to give up a significant package for Parayko they could ultimately lose him to a rival.
Rival Could Sneak Parayko Out From Under The Jets
In the same report where the Jets were linked to Parayko the Calgary Flames were also considered another favorite to land him the Flames have also been linked to Parayko in the past and could majorly overhaul their team at the trade deadline.
The Calgary Flames are a team that's been reportedly linked to Parayko, according to the trade watch list from The Fourth Period. There were also connections with Parayko and the Flames last trade deadline, but nothing came of it. Reports suggest that Calgary will look to move Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev, Elias Lindholm, and others this trade deadline
If the Flames see Parayko as a reclamation project that could be good for their future they might make a big offer. The Jets would need to respond with a serious offer of their own. If not they could lose out on an impact player not for this season's playoff run but future years as well.
