Before we reveal who has the worst contract in Jets history, let's look at the runner up. Coming in at second worst we have Mathieu Perreault. The Jets signed Perreault to a three-year, $9 million deal as a free agent in 2014. Perreault put up 40 points in all three seasons, which led the Jets to reward him with a four-year, $16.5 million extension. The deal was a disaster, as Perreault never once hit the 40 point mark again after signing that huge deal!
The worst contract in Jets history award goes to Dustin Byfuglien. The Jets signed him to a five-year, $38 million deal in 2016, and Byfuglien started off well by putting up back-to-back 50-point seasons. That was the end of the honeymoon between the two, as Byfuglien went through some serious personal problems that led to a major dispute with the team as it was stated he took time off without getting consent first. Byfuglien later said the reason for his absence was due to an injury.
Honorable mentions go out to Tobias Enstrom at #3, Steve Mason at #4, and Olli Jokinen for having the fifth worst ever Jets contract.
