The Edmonton Oilers have some big decisions to make soon, and now there's been another intriguing update on superstar forward Leon Draisaitl.
For months now, there's been speculation on the future of Leon Draisaitl in Edmonton, and with new GM Stan Bowman taking over, it makes sense if the two parties begin seriously discussing a mega-extension. Now, there's been an update on the situation, with reporter Bob Stauffer giving all Oilers fans major hope about No. 29's future.
«It would not surprise me if Leon were to be signed to an extension shortly,» Stauffer reported on the day of Bowman's press conference.
A while back, Draisaitl's agent gave the team an ultimatum, suggesting that if a deal isn't done by the end of August, the star forward would head into the 2024/25 regular season as a pending free agent.
«There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, by end of August, or it doesn't work out at all,» Poner said . «It will become clear whether Edmonton wants him or not».
After Auston Matthews signed his record-breaking deal, the bar has now been set for Drasaitl's new contract, and whether or not it's with the Oilers, he's expected to become the highest paid player in the NHL.
