In last night's preseason game featuring the Oilers and the Canucks, this defenseman laid a dirty crosscheck on a Vancouver forward, and chaos ensued.
Preseason hockey can be intense, especially as the final cuts are about to be made. Players can go into desperation mode to try and make a roster spot, and that can lead to some stupid plays during preseason games.
This is exactly what happened last night, as Vincent Desharnais, a defenseman who has played most of his career in the minors, laid a dirty cross-check on Anthony Beuvillier of the Canucks. Canucks players took exception, and a brawl broke out.
In the video, you can see Beauvillier continuing to jar with Desharnais after the refs separate the two. While it's probably likely that Desharnais just got his stick-up due to his significant height difference, it's safe to say the hit was dirty, and Beauvillier likely thought so too.
