The Chicago Blackhawks were lucky enough to be able to draft Connor Bedard last year, who went first overall. Despite being considered one of the most prepared players for the NHL in ages, Bedard has shown that rookies still make mistakes.
Bedard Gets Trucked While Distracted By Own Pass
The rookie Blackhawks player already faced consequences from game mistakes this year after having his jaw broken by a hit from Brendan Smith. Yet, it seems he is still not immune to distraction-related injuries.
In the very first period of the game between Chicago and Arizona, Bedard had an opportunity with the puck. Unfortunately, he was too entranced by his own pass to see Matt Dumba of the Coyotes skating quickly toward him.

Fans Criticize Dumba Hit On Bedard
Dumba made a pretty forceful shove against the wall, yet Bedard no longer had the puck at the point of contact. As expected, this player is now under fire for this late hit.
"Matt Dumba hit Connor Bedard WAY late � absolutely should've been a penalty. But the Yotes get called for goalie interference a minute later."
However, this belief is clearly not unanimous. Other avid NHL watchers have made the argument that because Dumba was already making a move when Bedard had the puck, it does not constitute a late hit.
"I'm a Bedard fan but that wasn't late. Puck had just left his stick and Dumba is already coming for the check beforehand, taking no extra steps. Connor needs to not watch his golf ball leave the tee and be aware of his surroundings IMO"
With Chicago currently ahead 4-2, a penalty for Dumba may not matter at this point. However, it is fair to say that if Bedard wants a long, successful career in the NHL, he needs to step up his focus during these games.
