This scary hit that occurred during the Avalanche-Kraken game sent Artturi Lehkonen to the hospital.
Lehkonen Hit By Oleksiak and Akwardly Goes Head First Into the Boards
During last night's Avalanche-Kraken game, Artturi Lehkonen was skating after a puck deep in the Kraken zone when he was slightly upended by Jamie Oleksiak. The hit sent Lehkonen barrelling into the boards head first, and was a scary sight for fans in Denver. Luckily, Lehkonen was able to get up and skate off on his own.
Really scary play here. Lehkonen goes head-first into the boards after contact with Oleksiak. Just the smallest shove by Oleksiak threw him off balance. No penalty on the play.
Thankfully, Lehkonen was able to skate off, but he was moving very slowly and went down the tunnel.
Lehkonen was taken to the hospital shortly after for further evaluation, as confirmed by the Avalanche. The play went uncalled during the game.
Artturi Lehkonen left tonight's game in the second period. He is alert, responsive and has full movement. He is being taken to a local hospital as a precaution for further evaluation.
Lehkonen Having Good Start To Season After Breakout Year
Lehkonen is coming off a breakout season where he scored 51 points in 64 games, 21 of those being goals. So far this season, he has recorded 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points in 12 games. The young forward has been able to find a rhythm with the Avalanche's top guns Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen.
