The New York Islanders' head coach Patrick Roy recently gave an unfortunate update on Scott Mayfield regarding his return to the lineup.

The Islanders have been struggling to keep up with the rest of the league, currently standing in twentieth place overall. However, their chances of getting any closer to the cup are hanging at slim to none given the recent announcement that Scott Mayfield will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
"#Isles Injury Update: Scott Mayfield had successful season ending surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery and not have any issues with his summer training regiment."

While the news of his likely full recovery and summer return is positive, the season for the Islanders may be over.

This New York team would need to suddenly become one of the most dominant teams in the league at this point to have a chance at the playoffs. Many fans are now blaming the coach's decision to have Mayfield wait so long to get his surgery.
If fans are right in their belief that he was injured on the first day, it seems the season for the Islanders was over as it started. Hopefully his coach is right about his summer return, because Mayfield might be the key to the team's future success.
