Driver in Humboldt Broncos crash seeks restoration of permanent resident status

The truck driver responsible for the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, is trying to regain his permanent resident status in Canada.

In 2018, he ran a stop sign and collided with the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team's bus at a rural intersection near Tisdale, Saskatchewan. The crash took the lives of 16 on the way to win a road game, and was a devastating blow to the community.
Sidhu was sentenced to eight years in prison, yet he was released early. Now, he wants his freedom back.

The application process could take up to two years. Some family members of the crash victims want Sidhu deported to his Indian home, while others believe he should be allowed to stay.
Jaskirat Singh Sidhu made a horrific mistake. A momentary lapse in judgement that cost the lives of 18 people. A mistake that was not made with malice and that he will live with forever.

Deporting him is wrong.

He's shown nothing but remorse.

What happened to forgiveness?
Politician George Chahal is urging federal government to block the deportation, stating that Sidhu has already served his time for the tragic accident.
