After a brief appearance in court today, Sean Higgins was informed by the Judge that there's been a delay and he will have to go back to jail for a week.
Last week, Sean Higgins stood before a court displaying little, if any, regard for the deaths of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau to which he is linked. Rather, he said something about how the arrest means he has to spend a long weekend in jail until Thursday.
In fact, Higgins attended another session in court this morning, and things did not turn out the way he expected. Instead of Higgins hoping to be released, the judge ordered him back into custody. He is now to be held until September 13th to give more time to both the defense and prosecution for the preparation and presentation of more documents.
Presumed innocent until proven guilty, Sean Higgins faces two counts of vehicular homicide, punishable by as much as 20 years in prison per count, for a grand total of 40.
The hockey world remains in mourning over this terrible accident, and the tributes to the Gaudreau brothers continue to pour in. Today, it was also announced that the brothers would be laid to rest in a private ceremony in New Jersey on Monday, just four days before Higgins is scheduled to make his next court appearance.
