Tragedy struck the hockey world nearly six years ago when the Humboldt Broncos were involved in a catastrophic accident. Yet, in a tale of redemption and resilience, one survivor has overcome all odds.

Hockey is not a safe sport by any stretch of the word, and most players can expect to face injuries along the road to stardom. Yet, the members of the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Association collided with an irresponsible semi-driver in Saskatchewan on April 6, 2018 in what was a horrific and avoidable incident.
With 16 deceased and 13 injured, this crash took away more than just lives, but also hopes and futures for so many young players. However, the story continues for one survivor of this tragedy, whose dedication just earned him a spot in the next Paralympic games.
"QUALIFIED FOR PARIS PARALYMPICS

Jacob Wasserman was a goaltender with the Humboldt Broncos who survived the fatal crash that afternoon, though became paralyzed from the waist down as a result of his injuries. Though he will not be on the ice,he will be representing Canada in the Paralympics in the category of PR1 men's single rowing. He will be competing with the Saskatoon Rowing Club.
"Incredible news as Jacob Wassermann, a survivor of the Humboldt Broncos crash, has qualified for his first Paralympics in rowing this summer in Paris.
