Tonight a new trade rumor is circling the internet involving two prominent Canadian teams. The trade would send several well-known players each way.
Major Trade Brewing Between To Canadian Teams
A new rumor has been uncovered that has linked the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks in a huge trade. The trade would involve a couple of veterans looking for a change of scenery.
In this trade the Vancouver Canucks would move on from struggling forward
Andrei Kuzmenko along with prospect
Nils Hoglander and a draft pick. In return, they would get veteran center
Sean Monahan, defenseman Jonathan Kovacevic, and a draft pick.
To Vancouver: Sean Monahan, Jonathan Kovacevic, and a 2025 2nd-round pick
To Montreal: Andrei Kuzmenko, Nils Hoglander, and a 2024 3rd round pick
This trade would be huge as both sides would give up top prospects as well as promising roster players. If this trade goes down who wins in the end though?
Breaking Down A Major Trade Between Canadian Rivals
This trade on the surface seems pretty even. Each team gets a middle-six forward with experience and proven good seasons. They also swap a prospect each who has NHL experience but struggled to fit in. Then of course the swap of picks.
With Andrei Kuzmenko being the younger player between himself and Sean Monahan that gives the Canadiens a slight edge in this trade. However, the value of a second-round pick versus a third-round pick could offset this.
The true winner of this trade would be the one who could deploy their new players the best.
The Canucks are looking to win now and Sean Monahan in a depth role could help accomplish this. On the flip side, the Canadiens could take extra time to play Andrei Kuzmenko and Nils Hoglander significant minutes to help their development.
