Patrick Kane had been a reliable forward for the Chicago Blackhawks, playing for the team for 16 years. However, their management decided he would better serve the team traded away to the Detroit Red Wings, who quickly signed him to a one-year contract.
Despite dealing with the aftermath of a serious hip injury, the 35-year-old winger had an impressive 47 points in only 50 games played. Yet, with the player potentially available to return to the Blackhawks, Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson stated that he was unlikely to pull Kane back in.
Davidson shared that he was impressed by Kane's performance and was happy about his injury management. However, he added that he does not believe he will go back on any tough decisions he made in hopes of building the team for a better chance at making the playoffs next season.
The Detroit Red Wings just missed the playoffs after being unable to secure the final Wild Card spot form the Washington Capitals. With Patrick Kane more than likely rejoining them for the upcoming season, they may have a better chance at that 16th spot.
