The Winnipeg Jets have had a remarkable year, taking fourth place in the league during the regular season and making it into the first round of playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche. However, the team may lose veteran player Sean Monahan in a trade deal to Montreal.

The Montreal Canadiens lost veteran center Sean Monahan in a trade to the Winnipeg Jets during the regular NHL season. This led Monahan to become the only player this season to play 83 games.
"Sean Monahan led all players with 83 games played this season.

Yet, with Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes looking to acquire some power players, this free agent could be back on a plane to Montreal sooner than previously expected. On a recent BPM Sports podcast, co-hosts Martin Lemay and Stéphane Gonzalez discussed the likelihood of the forward's return. Lemay even suggested bringing the player back on a contract that would entail up to $25 million.
"Sean Monahan is the best of the free agents this year. If I have to give four or five years, at five million dollars per year, are you in or not? You need good veterans and we're certain that Sean Monahan is one."
Though Lemay has a valid argument for the necessity of veteran players on teams for a better chance at making the playoffs, viewers did not seem to agree. The team posted a poll in which less than a third of voters agreed to his contract stipulations.
Though Monahan may return to the Montreal Canadiens in the future, he has to remain focused on the playoffs. He has six unsuccessful shots on goal in Winnipeg's first two games in their playoff series against Colorado. With both teams tied 1-1, he will have to work extra hard to make the next shot land to help pull the Jets into the lead in their game tomorrow night.
