So, every year around the trade deadline, we see some unexpected names pop up for potential game-changing trades, like when Edmonton snagged Mattias Ekholm last year. Now, the Oilers are in the mix again, with rumors swirling around Brayden Schenn from the St. Louis Blues.

Trade Rumor: Brayden Schenn to the Edmonton Oilers

Seems like the Blues are looking to shake things up, focusing more on younger talent and possibly putting Schenn on the trading block. Paul Bissonette mentioned the Oilers' interest, and Elliotte Friedman confirmed it.
Yet, there's a catch, which is Schenn's contract. Schenn could be a game-changer for the Oilers, bringing in experience as a third-line center and versatility to slide up to the second-line wing when needed. However, his $6.5 million contract for the next five years complicates things.
Elliote Friedman poured some cold water on the idea, highlighting the contract hurdle. However, nothing's impossible. The Oilers could juggle the cap by involving Jack Campbell in the trade or sweeten the deal with picks and prospects to have the Blues retain salary. Imagine having Schenn on board with a reduced salary for the next five years that'd be huge for the Oilers.
Schenn's gritty style, defensive prowess, and offensive production align perfectly with what the Oilers need for the playoffs. If GM Ken Holland can pull this off, it'd be a major win.
