Before making his NHL debut, Boston Bruins prospect Cole Spicer is set to remain off the ice for the foreseeable future after facing academic ineligibility at UMD.

Two years ago, center forward Cole Spicer was looking to make a big impact on the hockey world. Lucky for him, he got picked up by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round at 117th overall.
"With the 117th pick in the 2022 #NHLDraft, the #NHLBruins select center Cole Spicer. Welcome to Boston, @cole_spicer10!"
More of Spicer's presence on the ice, though, came at the University of Minnestota-Duluth. He was introduced to the team only a short time after being drafted.
"Next we are introducing Cole Spicer!

Cole Spicer is coming to UMD from the National Team, Development Program. Spicer played in 58 games last season where he tallied 39 points. He was drafted to the Boston Bruins in the 4th round."
Unfortunately, before his very first NHL shift, it seems Spicer will be away from hockey for the foreseeable future. The 20-year-old forward was academically ineligible to return to UMD's team and will step back to focus on his personal life.
"#Bruins 🇺🇸 forward prospect Cole Spicer (@colespicer_10) 🇺🇸 is done playing hockey for the "forseeable future."

Spicer, 20, had five goals, nine points through 17 games played with the University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCAA) 🇺🇸 last season.

He was drafted 117th-overall by Boston in 2022.

He was deemed academically ineligible to play for UMD next season, and said he needs to take a step away from the game to figure out some personal and mental things in his life."

Life getting in the way is not uncommon for young prospects, though always disappointing when it impacts their ability to play. This is especially upsetting regarding Spicer, who recently spoke about how much he loved Boston. Hopefully, he gets the help he needs and can return to hockey soon.
"It's awesome...such a cool city and such a great staff...they welcome you with open arms so it's a great spot to be drafted to and I'm super honored every time I come here."
