The Detroit Red Wings may have won the Patrick Kane sweepstakes, but the team will need to continue working hard if they want to make it to the playoffs.

Kane to Lead the Red Wings to the Playoffs?

As we enter 2024, the Red Wings are in the fifth position in the Atlantic Division. Even with Patrick Kane's addition, the Wings seem to be slipping away from a playoff spot, with only three wins in their last 12 games.
In those games. Kane scored 13 points, including six goals. The veteran brings a lot of firepower to the team, there's not doubt about it. However, he's not enough to win games, as we're currently seeing.

Kane Could Leave Detroit If Playoffs are Unattainable

Recent reports suggest that Kane has engaged in discussions with the Red Wings' management regarding the possibility of leaving the team if they fail to qualify for the playoffs.
"It was reported that Kane's camp talked to the Red Wings about the possibility of Detroit not making the postseason and what it could mean for the star forward's trade deadline plans. There is a strong belief that GM Steve Yzerman has committed to trading Kane to a Stanley Cup contender if the Red Wings cannot clinch a playoff spot ahead of the trade deadline."

Given Kane's affordable contract of $2.750 million and his great contributions on the ice, his departure could bring valuable assets for the Red Wings.
It's clear that Detroit would prefer to keep him and make it to the playoffs, but they'll need to turn things around sooner than later to avoid it.
Nonetheless, nothing is set in stone. A lot of games remain to be played before the trade deadline.
They are just one point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning, and three points behind the Maple Leafs.
Do you think the Red Wings will qualify for the playoffs?
