Jets to Make a Splash on the Trade Market?
The Winnipeg Jets have been surprising a lot of people this season. They're currently third in the Central Division, in the rearview mirror of the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.
In a recent paper for
The Athletic, Chris Johnston stated that the Jets could be willing to add talent before the trade deadline. He added that
Sean Monahan would be a great fit in the organization.
Monahan's $2 million cap hit contract makes him an attractive target for any team looking for a deep playoff run. His experience, leadership and talent will certainly generate a lot of interest around the League.
Here's what Johnston stated:
"Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has consistently shown a willingness to add rentals at the deadline when his teams have given him a compelling reason to do so. This looks like one of those years in Winnipeg. Monahan would strengthen the spine of a Jets team that has a puncher's chance in the Central Division, and the cost both in assets and his $2 million cap hit shouldn't be too severe."
Many Teams Will Inquire About Monahan - Bidding War Incoming?
Kent Hughes, the Montreal Canadiens' GM, is renowned to be a fierce negotiator when trading his assets.
He's not afraid to wait out the teams and force them to give the best package possible.
They have many players that could generate interest on the market, but Monahan is surely the biggest name involved in the rumors.
Don't be surprised if teams like the Avalanche, Panthers, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Canucks or Flyers ask about him. If they truly want him, the Jets will need to outbid the other teams.
The Canadiens could also decide to keep him, if they can get him to sign an extension.
