The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is trying to get in the way of Pavel Datsyuk's Hockey Hall of Fame induction, as we learned in their official press release.
On X, the UCC's CEO and Executive Director Ihor Michalchyshyn shared a massive statement. In it, he said that the NHL legend Pavel Datsyuk should be banned from entering Canada and shouldn't be inducted in the Hockey Fall of Fame, because the player went to an event honoring Russian soldiers who took part in the war against Ukraine.
Read their official post here:
Datsyuk left an indelible in the hockey community. He inspired a lot of young players to push their own limits on the ice with his great skills and his overall level of excellence.
He played 953 games in the Detroit Red Wings organization and scored 918 points in that time. He won two Stanley Cups (2002 and 2008), Four Lady Byng Memorial Trophies (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) and three Frank J. Selke Trophies (2008, 2009, 2010).
After he retired from the NHL in 2016, he joined the KHL, where he spent the final five seasons of his career.
There no doubt that he deserves his spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. It would be surprising to see the NHL change their mind because of politics, despite the current climate in Russia, with two months to go before his induction.
If you need more reasons to see that Datsyuk deserves to be in the HHoF, check out the following video:
