With the Edmonton Oilers now down 2-1 in the Western Conference Final of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, fans are quickly turning on Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse

It's not an uncommon thing for hockey fans to get restless and play the blame game when their team isn't performing the way they had hoped. The beating that Edmonton Oilers assistant captain Darnell Nurse is taking online after his team's 5-3 loss to the Dallas Stars in game 3 of the 2024 Western Conference Final is on a whole other level, though.
Fans have piled on the defenseman, with several pointing out that he simply isn't playing up to his $9.25 million contract. Nurse is minus-12 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs so far, and has just two assists.
"Nurse being a -12 in 15 games is more impressive than sad.

$9.25 million.

#LetsGoOilers"
Nurse's response to the Stars getting 13 shots in a row at one point in the game while Edmonton had zero is also being heavily criticized.
"Darnell Nurse when asked tonight how to explain the Stars getting 13 shots in a row "It's Hockey, It Happens"

I'm sorry man, this is the playoffs, that CAN'T HAPPEN!.

Awful take, we'll discuss in the morning, bed time."
Someone else posted a video of Nurse's highlights from his 15 postseason games in 2024. It is two seconds long and includes one play, a save he made with his butt on Mason Marchment last night.
"darnell nurse FULL 2024 playoff highlights."
Others are questioning whether Nurse's eight year, $74 million contract he signed back in 2021 is one of the worst in the league.
"Does Darnell Nurse have the worst contract in the NHL?

0G, 2A, -12 thru 15 playoff games 😮

$9.25M AAV"
"Darnell Nurse has the worst contract in the league and it has single handedly prevented the oilers from winning a cup."
"I'm about to file a missing person report on Darnell Nurse. He's been invisible all playoffs."
Nurse and his teammates will need to be better in game 4 to avoid falling behind 3-1 in the series, a deficit that will be very difficult to come back from. That one takes place Wednesday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
