Edmonton were just moments away from the Stanley Cup in 2024, but the team still have improvements to make, and it may come from their biggest rival.

The Edmonton Oilers have been incredibly active this summer in adding to their already loaded squad, but ahead of training camp, it appears that they aren't satisfied. While trades between them and their biggest rival the Calgary Flames are incredibly rare, they do happen, and now, The Hockey Writers have linked the two once more with a blockbuster deal surrounding blue liner Rasmus Andersson.
[Andersson] could slide in on the second pairing with NurseHis offensive contributions have improved over the last three seasons (138 points in 239 games) but the Flames' sell-off in 2023-24 had an impact on his overall numbers.
Andersson is beloved in Calgary, but it appears their fans and the team are ready to move on as they look towards their rebuild, but is a trade with the rival Oilers just a bit too much? At this point, General Manager Craig Conroy has shown he's open to just about anything, and after tallying 138 points over his past three years, Andersson will return the Flames a haul.
As for the fit in Edmonton, it would be a good one, as he would provide the offensive spark and the leadership that's needed beyond the Bouchard/Ekholm pairing, but it would cost them. Ultimately, the Oilers may just not have what it takes to make a deal, but with Andersson being available, they have to make a push if they are to take the next step towards the Stanley Cup in 2024/25.
