The Edmonton Oilers are deep in contract talks with Leon Draisaitl, but it's not been an easy ride.

Draisaitl's future has been in the air since the Oilers' season ended against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. It's time he gets his bag with only a year left on his contract and teams salivating at the chance to land him in 2025 NHL free agency.
Many have compared these sweepstakes to Auston Matthews, who signed a four year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs at $13.25 million per year, meaning he will reach free agency still in the prime of his career.
Yet, Draisaitl feels he's already settled in his home and hopes to agree on a long-term commitment with Edmonton.
Another testament to the leadership Leon Draisaitl possesses.

I understand this may be standard by great leaders but that doesn't take away from the specialty and gravity of this moment for O'Reilly. Wonderful message from 29.
Negotiations are ongoing, but both sides see differently on the salary requirements.
On topic of extensions, #Oilers have continued talks with Leon Draisaitl. Things are a little bumpy, as the team and his agent have a bit of a different opinion on how much he should be paid. I've heard the current price is tag is 8x14M. #NHL
The current asking price from the 28 year-old's side is reportedly around $14 million per year over eight years for a total of $112 million. Lets see if the Oilers bite.
