A veteran within the Montreal Canadiens organization has announced his retirement from the game, which has sent shock waves down the organization.
Cedric Montminy, the captain of the Trois-Rivieres Lions in the ECHL, has announced he is retiring from the sport he loves most. The Canadiens ECHL affiliate team will now need to find someone to fill in for Cedric.
"Thank you for everything Captain Montminy!
Your time with the Trois-Rivières Lions has deeply marked the organization.
You will forever remain in our hearts as a true Lion!"
Those in the Canadiens organization will definitely be sad to see such a cornerstone player go, who was such a lovely mentor for the younger guys on the team.
Montminy was the first ever captain in the history of the Lions franchise. He played 205 games for the Lions, and racked up 64 goals and 64 assists. He also hit the 100 goal mark last season in his ECHL professional career. Montminy took to the internet to thank fans for all their support over the years, and knows he couldn't have done it without them.
"The support and recognition will forever be engraved in my memory."
Montminy hangs up his skates with his head held high, having accomplished a lot in his career. Happy retirement Captain Cedric!
