Former Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic has been hitting the ice in New Jersey, which created buzz about him joining the Devils on a PTO.
The rumor was reported true by Bob Stauffer and exploded across the hockey world.
However, the Devils released a statement denying the move, labeling it categorically untrue.
His agent Gerry Johannson has also confirmed no decision has been made on the client's next destination.
Lucic, who re-signed with Boston for $1 million last season after a four year stint with the Calgary Flames, saw his time cut short after just four games due to an ankle injury that put him on long-term IR.
The 36 year-old and former Stanley Cup champion in 2011, faced some off-ice issues last November, leading to a stint on the commissioner's exempt list.
The charges were dropped, but he needs NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's clearance to return. Currently in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance program, it's clear Lucic is working through some challenges.
Still, the fact he's training shows he still has a desire to for a return to the show. He's a member of the 1,000 club having appeared in 1,177 regular games over 17 seasons, where he has 233 goals and 586 points between the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Flames.
The veteran has also appeared in the Stanley Cup playoffs eleven times and has 29 goals an 77 points in 136 games.
Lucic made headlines earlier this
Summer when New York Rangers Matt Rempe called him his dream fighter.
Here's to seeing him be cleared soon, and be given the opportunity to make an impact and add some grit to a team's ' lineup.
