Head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers John Tortorella recently revealed information on the team's performance amidst the investigation into Carter Hart.
Carter Hart was set to be the starting goaltender for the Philadelphia Flyers this season. However, he had to leave the team halfway through the season as he was one of five professional hockey players being investigated for his involvement in the 2018 World Junior Scandal.
While the drastic and chaotic nature of what has ensued for the player is obvious, the impact on Philadelphia's team. John Tortorella, the Flyers head coach, made it known how much this affected the team.
"Let's face it: things got thrown into a really weird situation when we lost Carter. But having said that, we had discussions in the summer about the situation w/Carter, & figured something was gonna go on, right? We've got to be honest about it."
Tortorella made it abundantly clear that 25-year-old Carter Hart's removal from the team has had a massive negative impact, throwing the team out of balance. However, this comment also clarified that the team was preparing for this player's removal.
"Torts also surprisingly admitted today that he and Danny Briere had discussions in the summer about the possibility something would happen with Carter Hart and that's why the goaltending situation is what it is now. #LetsGoFlyers"
Despite this forethought, the Flyers are still having trouble trying to get close to Hart's .906 save percentage, with Samuel Ersson at .889. With only a couple weeks to go, the path for Philadelphia to the playoffs is barely existent.
