Seattle Kraken fans are watching Shane Wright's latest comments with a mix of amusement and concern.

Wright, who has never been shy about his self-belief, recently declared himself a "generational talent." For many, this seems like another case of false hope issues from a player who's an NHL bust so far.
Wright has a history of bold statements. Before the 2022 NHL Draft, he confidently said he believed he should be the first overall pick.
However, when draft day came, the Montreal Canadiens passed on him, and he slipped to fourth overall, landing with the Kraken. The moment he stepped on stage, he famously shot a glare at the Habs' table, clearly frustrated by not being chosen first.
Now, Wright is again making headlines. NHL Fantasy projections estimate Wright will score around 48 points in the 2024-25 season. While this isn't a bad number for a young player, it's not top pick numbers. Yet the good news is he knows this and the 20 year-old has been working on all parts of his game this Summer.
Wright certainly has skill, as evidenced by his 22 goals and 47 points in 59 AHL games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, as they made another run to the Calder Cup Fianls before falling victim to the Hershey Bears for the second straight year.
But one thing is certain no matter what happens. Wright wasn't right about being a generational talent. He's not Calder-Trophy winner Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks, nor is he even better than Juraj Slafkovsk, who was the first pick of his class by the Canadiens and just signed an 8 year, $7.6 million AAV extension.
Kraken fans hope this experience will teach Wright more humility moving forward. Let your actions speak for you, not your words.
