A former NHL forward has left the league in favor of playing in Europe.

Salavat Signs Leivo

It has been announced that Josh Leivo has signed with Salavat of the KHL.
Josh Leivo signs one-year contract with Salavat.

Leivo spent last season primarily with the St. Louis Blues where he played 51 games but he also tacked on an additional two games in the AHL. Leivo was originally selected in the third round of the 2011 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs where he spent the first six years of his career.
Leivo has played 265 career NHL games with Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Carolina, and St. Louis, scoring 42 goals and 93 points in the process. He has some hardware to his name winning the AHL playoff MVP in 2022 when he led the Chicago Wolves to a Calder Cup.
In Russia, Leivo will get elevated ice time and a chance to prove he is truly deserving of an NHL opportunity in a team's top six. If he is not able to prove this, he will likely stay in Russia for the remainder of his career.
