Ever since the disappointing playoff loss against the Boston Bruins, Mitch Marner has been a hot button topic in Toronto, with many expecting him to be traded ahead of the 2024/25 season. There's still the possibility of any outcome however, but if it is the extension that is to be the outcome, we now know what Marner will be asking for from Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs front office.
Craig Berube, the teams new Head Coach has revealed how excited he is to coach Marner going forward, and if he is to get an extension, he will need to start 2024/25 red-hot, but most of all, will likely need to perform when it matters most in the playoffs.
As of right now however, an extension, departing as a free agent and a trade are all on the table, and any of those could happen at any time, but after hearing he wants $13 million AAV on a new deal, perhaps the team will again be motivated to move Marner before or during the upcoming season.
