Just over a year ago, the Vancouver Canucks bought out the contract of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and after two poor seasons, the veteran was firmly at a cross roads in his career. On a one-year 'show me' deal, he managed to reach the mountain top, winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers, but after the season, he departed as a free agent, joining the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When asked about his new team, who are looking to replicate the Panthers success, OEL expressed his excitement about Toronto, while seemingly firing a subtle shot at his former team.
While this could be construed as a shot at the Panthers, players are often excited about joining a new team and will express that in interviews, so it's an understandable response. Now, the Maple Leafs finally need to put their money where their mouth is, as they've been building a Stanley Cup threat for years, and with the early free agent additions, this may be the best shot they've had in years.
