With the player in the final year of his contract, veteran forward Sidney Crosby's future with the Pittsburgh Penguins now hangs in question as both parties struggle to come to a deal.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have had some great success in the NHL since entering the league in 1990. Much of this can be attributed to their veteran captain Sidney Crosby, who in his 19 years with the team, only missed the playoffs three times and pulled in the Stanley Cup the same amount. Even in this past season at 36 years old, he remained towards the top of the league in overall performance.
"Sidney Crosby in year 19:

55 games:
 32 goals (8th in NHL)
 61 points (19th in NHL)
 1.11 pts/game (91 pt pace)
 38 points at 5v5 (6th in NHL)
 +18
1.38 average game score per game (12th in NHL)
 $11.3m market value via
@TheAthletic

 58.81 FO%
 +4 net penalties
57.19 5v5 xGF% (31st in NHL, only forwards with more ice-time than Sid are McDavid & Hyman)
Center of 4th best first line in NHL via xGF%

Somehow he's still one of the most elite players in hockey after 19 years."
However, Crosby is in the last year of his contract with Pittsburgh before he steps into free agency. Provided general manager Kyle Dubas's public statements on his belief in the player retiring as a Penguin, both parties have been working towards an extension agreement.
"#LetsGoPens HOF captain Sidney Crosby says his camp has had discussions with GM Kyle Dubas on a contract extension, per @SethRorabaugh. Crosby's contract expires in 2025 when he will be at the age of 37."
Unfortunately, it seems these discussions have not been as simple as many hoped. According to insider Dan Kingerski, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins have reached a stalling point in contract discussions. calling into question the player's future with the team.
"The Penguins and Sidney Crosby have not progressed in contract discussions.
"

With both parties stalled this long after contract negotiations could begin, Penguins fans have reason to be concerned about what will happen with Sidney Crosby. Hopefully, the conversation can progress soon, otherwise, it could be a shake-up in Pittsburg.
