Players of the Winnipeg Jets looking on in disbelief

Despite the Winnipeg Jets being in win-now mode, it appears that the overall look of their team may have actually gotten worse over the summer.

The 2023-24 season was full of ups and downs for the Winnipeg Jets. There were times when the team looked absolutely unstoppable, and other times where they looked very fragile and weak. The team entered the Stanley Cup playoffs on an eight game winning streak, however that meant nothing as they were pummelled in round one, losing in five games to the Colorado Avalanche.
The team hasn't won a playoff series in four seasons, and they were supposed to make changes this summer to help them get over that hump, but instead the team actually looks worse on paper now than they did when they got eliminated in the playoffs.
The Jets have now lost Tyler Toffoli and Sean Monahan in their forward group, as well as Brenden Dillon and Nate Schmidt on defense. They will also no longer have backup goalie Laurent Brossoit. That's an absolutely massive loss for this team and they were not able to come anywhere close to replacing all of these losses this summer. This is big, big trouble for the team and their fans. Monahan was able to score 13 goals and had 24 points in his 34 games with the Jets, whereas Toffoli had scored seven goals and added four assists in his 18 games with Winnipeg.
Another big problem for the team is that Nikolaj Ehlers has stated he has no intention of signing a contract extension with Winnipeg, so he will likely be traded. There goes another player that is likely going to be scratched off the roster.
The Jets tied their franchise record in wins with 52 last season, and ever since then, they have gotten worse in every position. The usual suspects of Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey and Kyle Connor will likely continue to produce at a good rate next season, but without Toffoli and Monahan their production may take a dip, and while Connor Hellebucyk is still one of the best goalies in the league, he is going to need a break for about 20 games or so, and the Jets are nowhere near to having a good backup, so that's a lot of games that they could potentially be losing on nights that Hellebucyk takes off.
It could be a really long year in Jets land next season, but hopefully some sort of roster move gets done within the next six weeks to help the team before the season starts.
