Kevin Cheveldayoff has some encouraging words on Cole Perfetti

Cheveldayoff stated that the two sides met on Wednesday and had discussions about a new contract for the young forward, also stating that he would like to «get it done sooner rather than later», a good sign for Jets fans worrying about his contract status as the new season rapidly approaches.

Perfetti has skated with several of his Jets teammates, including Josh Morrissey, Mark Scheifele, and Adam Lowry, as his contract situation had dragged on well into the summer months. Jets beat reporter Scott Billeck reported that Perfetti was looking for a long term deal, similar to the ones young players around the league have been signing the last few years.

This is all great news for Jets fans and Perfetti enthusiasts, as it sounds like the two sides are gaining traction on a potential extension.

Scott Arniel, the newly named head coach for the Jets, had reportedly spent some time alone with Perfetti this summer, seemingly building a positive relationship with the young forward.

Arniel also spoke about the top 6 minutes that Perfetti will have the opportunity to seize next season, something he was not often afforded with Rick Bowness behind the Jets bench.
