Despite limited playing time at the NHL level in recent years, the Winnipeg Jets have swung a trade with the Hurricanes for a young defenseman.

The Winnipeg Jets have lost some key depth pieces to their lineup already this off-season, and now they've made a solid addition for very low risk that could pay off big time down the line.
Believe Winnipeg will be acquiring D Dylan Coghlan from Carolina, too

RFA with a big shot
The news was first broken by Elliotte Friedman, with the Jets acquiring the 6-foot-2 blueliner who has shown the ability to score well in the AHL, netting 15, 11 and 16 goals in his three full AHL seasons.
His only lengthy NHL experience came with Vegas back in 2021-22 where he played in 59 games, tallying 3 goals and 13 points over that time, but after just 1 game with Carolina a year ago, it's unclear what his role in Winnipeg will be.
Not that @FriedgeHNIC needs my confirmation, but I can confirm Carolina is trading RFA RHD Dylan Coghlan to Winnipeg.

Hearing the return is a conditional 7th round draft pick going back to Carolina.

Given that the return is fairly cheap, this is a solid pickup for the Jets, acquiring a player full of potential that could play a healthy role for them in 2024/25 if needed.
