ESPN have now put together their list of Top 100 athletes of the 21st century, and shockingly, their disrespect of the NHL has reached an all time high.

It's been well known for quite some time that despite their contract with the NHL, ESPN have a major bias against hockey, and that was on full display when they produced their Top-100 list of the best athletes of the 21st century. No one expected the list to be full of NHL stars, but given the amount of skill it takes to play hockey, the disrespect is astronomical.
Today, ESPN published their ranking of the top 100 professional athletes of the 21st century, voted on by ESPN «experts.»

3 hockey players made it into the top 100:
22nd - Sidney Crosby
54th - Alex Ovechkin
98th - Connor McDavid
Unsurprisingly, hockey social media hasn't taken the news well at all, as there have been countless comments calling out the ridiculous bias.
Given how hockey is looked down upon in the US compared to the NBA and the NFL, it's not shocking at all to see, but given that McDavid has won three Hart Trophies already and is on pace to be one of the greatest of all time, the disrespect towards him is insane. As for Sidney Crosby, No. 22 isn't the worst spot, as he is behind notable names such as Michael Phelps, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Lionel Messi and Roger Federer, all of whom can potentially lay claim to being the GOATS of their sport.
Ultimately, it's unclear when the disrespect of the NHL will end, but to only have three hockey players on the list and have one at No. 98 shows how far the league still has yet to go.
