The Stanley Cup Playoffs are rapidly approaching, but all the talk of the NHL world is seemingly around the blockbuster news that the Arizona Coyotes are now likely heading to Salt Lake City. Now, it has been suggested that if this move happens, realignment could happen in the Western Conference as the league may wish to have Colorado, Salt Lake City and Vegas all in the same division.
According to those whispers, this would result in both the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers heading to the Central Division, but as of right now, that has not been confirmed. With the league potentially looking to expand, the division's as we know them may completely shift in the coming years, but for now, this is purely speculation. There has also been suggestions on social media of moving towards four team divisions, which would allow the NHL's goal to take place in what would be a very interesting shakeup to the status quo.
We've seen how adding new teams in the past has changed things up in a big way however, so when the move is made, expect at least one change, as it makes sense for the league to want Vegas, Salt Lake City and Colorado all in the same division, so expect that to happen one way or another.
