Connor Hellebuyck has been a top-10 goaltender in the NHL since he came into the league in 2015. Now he is entering into the last year of his contract with the Winnipeg Jets.
Considering that the Jets are potentially heading into a rebuild Hellebuyck could be on the move. One Eastern Conference team looks poised to take a run at acquiring him.
Devils Want Hellebuyck Again?
After being rumored to have pursued a Connor Hellebuyck trade earlier this offseason they were supposedly out of the running for the star goalie. Now according to a new rumor from Hockeybuzz.com, the Devils are back in and taking another shot at acquiring Hellebuyck.
This rumor confirms the Devils are back in the picture on Hellebuyck. There is no potential compensation listed but the Devils likely have plenty of assets that would entice the Jets. This user on HockeyBuzz also brings up an interesting point. Does Hellebuyck catapult the Devils to an Eastern Conference favorite?
Devils Future Cup Favorites?
The New Jersey Devils gave the NHL a taste of what their future potential could be. Jack Hughes finally popped off scoring 99 points. Nico Hischier also had a career-best 80 points. On top of this, Dougie Hamilton came to town and obliterated his best point total in a season putting up 74 points.
The Devils of course also have two of the best prospects on defense in the world in Simon Nemec and Luke Hughes. The organization is set up for long-term success having several of their stars under reasonable contracts.
The addition of Connor Hellebuyck would just add another element to this team. Everyone who has ever played hockey knows when you have a good goalie behind you the team plays more confidently and can take more chances. Thinking of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and the rest of this Devils team playing even more aggressively and confidently should be a scary proposition for other NHL teams.
