Patrik Laine reiterated his need to leave the Columbus Blue Jackets, but general manager Don Waddell says he still does not have a reasonable deal.

It is no secret that Patrik Laine has wanted off the Columbus Blue Jackets roster. After spending a significant time recovering from an injury and tending to his mental health in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, TSN reports indicated the star forward was looking for another fresh start.
Discussions of Patrik Laine's next NHL have remained towards the top of trade rumor circles for months, with few developments coming through. Now, reports indicate that exactly nothing has changed. According to Don Waddell, Patrik Laine's conversation with head coach Dean Evanson assured Coumbus that he is still looking to play elsewhere.
"Dean did talk to him, very cordial conversation, but he's made it clear that he wants a fresh start someplace else. And I've had this situation before, probably not at this level, this type of player. And I've told his representation that we will definitely look at every deal and I've given him full permission to talk to teams. So, I've been where I've had players that wanted to be traded before and just because a player wants to traded, two things have to happen. You have to have a willing partner and you also have to have a deal that we both can accept and agree on. And at this time I don't have that, so I can't rule out any possibilities at this point."
As Don Waddell stated, both parties need to agree on a deal, and he is still looking for one. Though Patrik Laine and several other staffers have talked with several teams, no deal has been presented that makes sense for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"Well he's still a Blue Jacket today and as we speak, I don't have anything of interest, but nothing that I had to make a decision on yet. Just some teams do their homework and trying to talk with Patrik and his agent and he thought about giving full permission to talk to teams. So, but as we are talking, I don't have anything that on the table that would even make any sense for the Blue Jackets to make that deal."
Despite his issues, Patrik Laine is still a serious competitor on the ice and can provide a major advantage on the right team. Now that he has gone full throttle into both physical training and a mental health program, hopefully, he can land a contract that allows him to play at his full potential.
