The Boston Bruins have been a Cup contender for years, having made an appearance in the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons. Part of their more recent success can be attributed to their goaltending duo of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, who have career save percentages in the high .91s. However, Boston realized it could not hold onto two elite goalies without suffering in other areas, resulting in their decision to deal Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators for
Mark Kastelic and
Joonas Korpisalo, and the 25th pick in the recent draft, used to select
Dean Letourneau.
Though there is no confirmation that negotiations have not progressed since his last update, this could spell trouble for the Boston Bruins. If they have not come any closer to a deal this close to the start of the regular season, Jeremy Swayman will hold all the leverage, and can ultimately drain more of the cap space than Boston can afford to lose. Yet, If the team decides to go for a trade, that leverage will fall into the hands of the team they are working with, making it a true lose-lose situation. Hopefully, the Bruins can make something happen, otherwise, they could be out of the running for the Stanley Cup far before the end of the upcoming season.
