Sheldon Keefe is barely out the door as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but a person with an in with the team says his replacement is already in place. That's despite General Manager Brad Treliving saying he would take at least some time.
A well-placed source says he knows an agreement with a new coach is already in place, as he is a friend of a lifelong friend of former St. Louis Blues coach Craig Berube. He insists all that's left is to sign a contract.
Even before Keefe was officially fired today, analysts had already been talking a lot about Berube being his possible replacement. There was chatter that he had talked to the Ottawa Senators about possibly taking over as bench boss there, but the Sens went with Travis Green, with Berube's price tag being a major factor in that decision.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have no issue whatsoever with whatever asking price, as long as it's they're spending it on the person they want. Berube has his name on the Stanley Cup as head coach of the Blues in 2018-19, when they went on an unbelievable run in the second half of the season after being dead last in the league.
